Trend Micro researchers received samples of phishing spam made to look like an official message from multinational financial services corporation MasterCard. The message, bearing the MasterCard logo, informs the recipients of an alleged update to the company's security system, and asks  them to update their account to continue using their card. The body of the message then instructs the recipients to click on the link to begin the updating process. Should the link be clicked, the users are then directed to a phishing site that asks for sensitive user information.

Users should always be cautious with messages purporting themselves to be from financial institutions. Offline verification, such as face-to-face visitations or hotline calling, should be made in such cases.
