This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following file(s)/component(s):

  • %System%\quwquy.exe

(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System32.)

It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %System Root%\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\lpk.dll
  • %System Root%\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\0000679d\lpk.dll
  • %System%\hra33.dll
  • %All Users Profile%\Application Data\lpk.dll

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.. %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System32.. %All Users Profile% is the All Users or Common profile folder, which is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users in Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, and C:\ProgramData in Windows Vista and 7.)

This malware drops copies of itself in folders where the executable file of each running process as lpk.DLL. It also drops a copy of itself in other drives.
