This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\{random}.TMP

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000(32-bit), XP, and Server 2003(32-bit), or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 2008(64-bit), 2012(64-bit) and 10(64-bit).)

It drops and executes the following files:

  • %System Root%\123.bat → contains commands for adding registry entries

(Note: %System Root% is the Windows root folder, where it usually is C:\ on all Windows operating system versions.)

It adds the following processes:

  • cmd /c %System Root%\123.bat
      The bat file contains the following commands
    • reg add "hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\Image File Execution Options\ZhuDongFangYu.exe" /v debugger /t reg_sz /d "ntsd -d" /f

    • reg add "hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe" /v debugger /t reg_sz /d "ntsd -d" /f
  • cmd.exe /c assoc .txt = exefile
  • cmd.exe /c ftype comfile={malware path}\{malware file name}.exe
  • cmd.exe /c ftype zipfile={malware path}\{malware file name}.exe
  • cmd.exe /c ftype jpgfile={malware path}\{malware file name}.exe

  • It locates and deletes all executable files found in drive C.
  • Skips searching for executable files in hidden and system folders.
  • Replaced all deleted files with a modified copy of itself with the same file name as that of the deleted file.
