This Trojan may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.

Installation

This Trojan drops and executes the following files:

  • %System%\msxmlrr.exe

(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP and Server 2003.)

Autostart Technique

This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\
Explorer\Run
{random} = "%System%\msxmlrr.exe"

Other System Modifications

This Trojan adds the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GHUZPSK

It adds the following registry entries as part of its installation routine:

HOSTS File Modification

This Trojan overwrites the system's HOSTS files to prevent users from accessing the following websites:

  • thepiratebay.org
  • www.thepiratebay.org
  • mininova.org
  • www.mininova.org
  • forum.mininova.org
  • blog.mininova.org
  • suprbay.org
  • www.suprbay.org

Other Details

This file contains a URL where it connects to possibly download other files. As of this writing, this file contains the following URLs:

  • {BLOCKED}ebspeed.net/html/license_{hex values}

It deletes itself after execution.
