Installation

This backdoor drops the following files:

  • %Windows%\tabtips.exe - also detected as BKDR_POISON.BAT
  • %Windows%\tabtips - contains the stolen information

(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.)

It injects codes into the following process(es):

  • EXPLORER.EXE
  • IEXPLORE.EXE

Autostart Technique

This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

Dropping Routine

This backdoor drops the following files wherein it saves the information it gathers:

  • %Windows%\tabtips

(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.)

Information Theft

This backdoor logs a user's keystrokes to steal information.

Other Details

This backdoor opens a hidden Internet Explorer window.

It does the following:

  • It opens a hidden internet explorer to connect to the following website to send and receive information:
    • {BLOCKED}nes.no-ip.org

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as BKDR_POISON.BAT.
