This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This backdoor adds the following processes:

  • svchost.exe

It adds the following mutexes to ensure that only one of its copies runs at any one time:

  • 7585489b515e3f7e

It injects codes into the following process(es):

  • created svchost.exe

This backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:

  • Execute Arbitrary Code(s) received from the C&C

It connects to the following websites to send and receive information:

  • lennon.{BLOCKED}r.com:443
  • zebra.{BLOCKED}oud.com:443

Other Details

This backdoor requires the existence of the following files to properly run:

  • {Malware path}\qrtfix.bin <- initial encrypted shell code

It does the following:

  • Queries certain machine specific registry entries and account SID in order to locate, load, decrypt and execute its encrypted shellcodes/payloads

It gathers the following information and reports it to its servers:

  • Hostname
  • Account SID
  • System's Temp path
  • Kernel32.dll File Version

Step 1

Step 3

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as BKDR_CHCHES.DQJ.
