This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

NOTES:
This malware checks if the following files exist:

  • gingerbreak.png
  • su.png
  • superuser.png
  • install.png
If the files above exist, this malware will update the following files:
  • /data/data/eu.chainfire.gingerbreak/files/gingerbreak
  • /data/data/eu.chainfire.gingerbreak/files/su
  • data/data/eu.chainfire.gingerbreak/files/superuser.apk
  • /data/data/eu.chainfire.gingerbreak/files/install.sh
The permissions of these files are changed to executable using the command "chmod 0755" then they are exucuted. As a result, malicious routines of these files are exhibited on the system.
