It’s often said that the only way to make a lasting impact on industry-wide cyber skills shortages is by building a reliable pipeline of young talent. As someone whose career began by studying IT & Business in school, I have first-hand experience in joining a company which helped support and fast-track my career into becoming a Sales Engineer. It goes without saying that I couldn’t have made this journey without the support of my parents, teachers, colleagues and friends.
Making a difference
Being a Sales Engineer at Trend Micro is a lot more than a cybersecurity vendor selling products. It’s about understanding the customer or prospect’s technical requirements, and then finding a match from our portfolio that will ultimately help them manage business risk more effectively and improve their security posture. This requires not only a detailed understanding of the technical aspects of our product range, but also the empathy, awareness & innovation to build a strong relationship with the customer organisation to become the trusted advisor.
In addition to my role as a sales engineer, I’m deeply passionate about giving back to the community. I’m a regular volunteer for the Internet Safety for Kids and Families (ISKF) initiative, which helps foster greater awareness in the next generation on how to keep safe online. I am also looking forward to volunteering in Trend Micro’s home building program in the Philippines in the near future, which is a programme designed to build a better future for underprivileged local families.
Culture
The culture is what drives the team spirit. Yes, we’re laser-focused on solving our customers’ pain points, but we also know that in order to do this effectively, we have to support one another. Everyone within Trend embodies the company’s core values – Customer, Change & Collaboration. The company is truly a diverse & inclusive place where everyone feels valued and respected. We look out for one another and motivate one another to be successful. I feel grateful to be part of the Trend family and look forward to progressing my career further.
