Based on analysis of the codes, it has the following capabilities:

  • Hooks the macro Auto_Open
  • Checks for the file BOOK1.XLS under XLSTART directory
  • Saves the active workbook as BOOK1.XLS under XLSTART directory if it does not exist
  • Infects an active workbook by creating a module named LAROUX that contains its maliicous code
  • Clears the section TITLE, SUBJECT, AUTHOR, KEYWORDS and COMMENTS in an infected file's properties
  • Checks for the module "laroux" in target documents so that it avoids reinfecting previous infections

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
