This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Download Routine
This Trojan takes advantage of unknown vulnerabilities in the following software to download malicious files:
- Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
It saves the files it downloads using the following names:
- %Temp%\{Random Number}.dll
(Note: %Temp% is the Windows Temporary folder, which is usually C:\Windows\Temp or C:\WINNT\Temp.)

This Trojan requires its main component to successfully perform its intended routine.

NOTES:
This Trojan checks if the affected system's operating system is Windows. If the said condition is met, it attempts to exploit the said vulnerability. Otherwise, it terminates itself.
Once it successfully exploits the said vulnerability, it connects to certain websites to download possibly malicious files.
It executes the file it downloads using the following command:
- regsvr32 -s {Malware path and File name}

Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 2
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as JAVA_DLOAD.ARJ. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files. Step 3
Download and apply these security patches Refrain from using these products until the appropriate patches have been installed. Trend Micro advises users to download critical patches upon release by vendors.
