Installation
This backdoor drops the following files:
- %Program Files%\Common Files\System\admin.obj - also detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\htrn_jis.dll - non-malicious file
(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)
It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %Program Files%\Common Files\System\QQMUDb.exe
(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)
Autostart Technique
This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
QQvb = %Program Files%\Common Files\System\QQMUDb.exe
Other Details
This backdoor connects to the following possibly malicious URL:
- http://{BLOCKED}ao123.cn/amc.bmp
- http://{BLOCKED}9.com/sms/sms.jpg
- http://{BLOCKED}1.com/count/count.asp
It does the following:
- Drops the following file in several locations in the affected system:
- lpk.dll - also detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C
However, as of this writing, the said sites are inaccessible.
It deletes itself after execution.

Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 2
Identify and terminate files detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C
- If the detected file is displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer but you cannot delete it, restart your computer in safe mode. To do this, refer to this link for the complete steps.
- If the detected file is not displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer, continue doing the next steps.
