This worm arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This worm drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %System Root%\Google\googleupdate.a3x
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It creates the following folders:
- %System Root%\Skypee
- %System Root%\Google
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It terminates itself if it finds the following processes in the affected system's memory:
- combination of the following processes:
- avp.exe, zonealarm.exe and avguard.exe

It will terminate itself if malware file name meets the following conditions:
- contains "artifact" string
- contains "sample" string
- does not contain ""
- filename length is greater than 35
It will terminate itself if the following folders are present:

- C:\virus
It will enumerate process modules. It terminates itself if the following files are found:

It creates the following shortcut (.LNK) files in removable drives that points to its copy:

- Hot
- Movies
- My Games
- My Pictuers
- My Videos
- Skypee\Skypee.lnk
It also creates shortcut (.LNK) files using folder names as filenames in folders in all drives.
The dropped shorcut files are detected as LNK_IPPEDO.B.
It copies all files found in the current malware path to the created Skypee folder.

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by WORM_IPPEDO.B. (Note: Please skip this step if the threat(s) listed below have already been removed.)
