This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This backdoor drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- ~/.config/.system-firewall/system-firewall.{bot key}.config
Backdoor Routine
This backdoor connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- Uninstall itself
- Download and execute arbitrary files
- Start remote shell
- Update itself
NOTES:
It terminates itself if the following items are found:
- /proc/vz/
- /proc/bc/
- /proc/xen/capabilities
It terminates itself if the following strings are found in these files:
VMware or VBOX in /proc/scsi/scsi
PowerVM Lx86, IBM/S390 or QEMU in /proc/cpuinfo
VM, Control Program or LPAR in /proc/sysinfo
It has form grabbing capability to capture web form data on the following browsers:
- Chrome
- Chromium
- Firefox
It can block users to access specific sites.
SOLUTION
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as UNIX_HANTHIE.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
