This spyware steals information such as hostname, IP address, and operating system from an infected system. It sends the gathered information to a certain URL.

This spyware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It does not have any propagation routine.

It does not have any backdoor routine.

It downloads a file from a certain URL then renames it before storing it in the affected system. It executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

It requires its main component to successfully perform its intended routine.

Download Routine

This spyware downloads files from the following URLs then renames them before storage in the affected system:

  • http://{BLOCKED}kscg0530.com/temp/test.exe

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %Windows%\upload.exe - TROJ_DROPPR.DON

(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.)

It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

NOTES:

It sends the gathered information to the following URL:

It will only download a file if the time is 10:00 AM or 4:00 PM. Otherwise, it will remain memory resident to wait for the said times.

It does not have rootkit capabilities.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Remove malware files dropped/downloaded by TSPY_LANOS.A

     
    • TROJ_DROPPR.DON

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as TSPY_LANOS.A

Step 4

Restart in Safe Mode

Step 5

Search and delete the file detected as TSPY_LANOS.A

*Note: Some component files may be hidden. Please make sure you check the Search Hidden Files and Folders checkbox in the More advanced options option to include all hidden files and folders in the search result.

To manually delete a malware/grayware file from the affected system:

  1. Right-click Start then click Search....
  2. In the Named input box, type the name of the file that was detected earlier.
  3. In the Look In drop-down list, select My Computer then press Enter.
  4. Once located, select the file then press SHIFT+DELETE to delete it.

Step 6

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as TSPY_LANOS.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
