This Trojan Spy arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan Spy drops the following files:

  • %System%\wbem\repository\WRITABLE.TST
  • %System%\wbem\Performance\WmiApRpl_new.h

(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\System32 on all Windows operating system versions.)

It adds the following processes:

  • cmd /c sc Create ChannelRent binPath= "cmd /c start %System%\Com\vsx.vbs" type= own type= interact start= auto
  • %System%\wbem\wmiprvse.exe -secured -Embedding
  • %System%\wbem\wmiprvse.exe -Embedding
  • \?\%System%\wbem\WMIADAP.EXE wmiadap.exe /F /T /R
  • sc Create ChannelRent binPath= "cmd /c start %System%\Com\vsx.vbs" type= own type= interact start= auto
