This Trojan Spy arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Trojan Spy adds the following folders:
- %Temp%\{Country Code + IP address} → deletes after exfiltration
(Note: %Temp% is the Windows temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\Temp on all Windows operating system versions.)
It drops the following files:
- %Temp%\{Country Code + IP address}.zip → deletes after exfiltration
(Note: %Temp% is the Windows temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\Temp on all Windows operating system versions.)
Information Theft
This Trojan Spy gathers the following data:
- Browser Data(e.g. Cookies, Login Data):
- Chrome
- Edge
- Firefox
- Brave
- Opera
- Chromium
- CocCoc
- IP Address
- Victim's Location
- Time
Stolen Information
This Trojan Spy sends the gathered information via HTTP POST to the following URL:
- https://{BLOCKED}egram.org/bot6487249252:AAH8IVNofM7r15_MGt5fjQ3Yh2BhpA0kBFk/sendDocumentIDchat=-4091334350
Other Details
This Trojan Spy connects to the following URL(s) to get the affected system's IP address:
- https://{BLOCKED}o.io
It does the following:
- Deletes the following files if found in the system:
- %Public%\project.bat
- %Public%\Windows.zip
- %Public%\djtme.zip
(Note: %Public% is the folder that serves as a repository of files or folders common to all users, which is usually C:\Users\Public in Windows Vista, 7, and 8.)
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TrojanSpy.Python.STEALER.A.
