OVERVIEW
This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
It runs certain commands that it receives remotely from a malicious user. Doing this puts the affected computer and information found on the computer at greater risk.

This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Backdoor Routine
This Trojan executes the following command(s) from a remote malicious user:
- May execute files with the following extension when received:
- .exe
- .vbs
- .ps1
- format: "powershell -WindowsStyle Hidden -ep bypass -file
"
- format: "powershell -WindowsStyle Hidden -ep bypass -file
- .bat
- .cmd
- The next routine is arbitrary and depends on the executed file behavior. However, as of this writing, no additional file was received from the C&C.
It connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- {BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.106.18:4177
- {BLOCKED.{BLOCKED}.48.72:4177
It attempts to communicate with its C&C server using the following ports: $DATA$
- 4177
SOLUTION
Step 1
Trend Micro Predictive Machine Learning detects and blocks malware at the first sign of its existence, before it executes on your system. When enabled, your Trend Micro product detects this malware under the following machine learning name:
- Ransom.Win32.TRX.XXPE50FFF055
Step 2
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as Trojan.Win32.SHELLCODE.AM. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
