Based on analysis of the codes, it has the following capabilities:

  • Exploits an unknown vulnerability in Ichitaro, a popular word processing application in Japan that uses a .JTD extension name, wherein it executes a shell code that lets it drop and execute the following file:
    • %usertemp%\TarOOFCV.exe – to be detected as TROJ_DROPPER.QVA
  • Routines of the dropped file detected as TROJ_DROPPER.QVA are also exhibited on the affected system.

Step 1

For Windows ME and XP users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Remove malware files dropped/downloaded by TROJ_TARODRP.SM

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_TARODRP.SM If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required.
