This Trojan drops the following file(s)/component(s):
- %Application Data%\Active\IconCacheEt.DAT - detected as BKDR_AGENT.TPB
- %Application Data%\Active\IconTemp.DAT
- %Windows%\linkinfo.dll
It creates the following folders:
- %Application Data%\Active
(Note: %Application Data% is the current user's Application Data folder, which is usually C:\Windows\Profiles\{user name}\Application Data on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\Profiles\{user name}\Application Data on Windows NT, and C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application Data on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)
Dropping Routine
This Trojan drops the following files:
- %User Profile%\Active\win32.exe - TROJ_MDROP.TPC
- %User Profile%\Active\iexplore.exe - TROJ_MDROP.TPB
(Note: %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Windows\Profiles\{user name} on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\Profiles\{user name} on Windows NT, and C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)
It executes the dropped file(s). As a result, malicious routines of the dropped files are exhibited on the affected system.
SOLUTION
Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Remove the malware/grayware file that dropped/downloaded TROJ_MDROP.TPC

Search and delete these folders

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_MDROP.TPC.
