This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
It executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Trojan drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %System Root%\Documents and Settings\All Users\{random}\{random}\{random}\{random}\{random}.exe
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It creates the following folders:
- %System Root%\Documents and Settings\All Users\{random}

Autostart Technique
This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
{random} = "%System Root%\Documents and Settings\All Users\{random}\{random}\{random}\{random}\{random}.exe"
Download Routine
This Trojan accesses the following websites to download files:
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}84/test.txt
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}60/download.txt
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}60/phed0012.ico
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}42/paulista.ico
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}42/peixe.ico
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}4 /post.ico
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}69/md1.bmp
- http://dl.dropbox.com/{BLOCKED}69/mda.bmp
It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.
SOLUTION
Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Restart in Safe Mode

Delete this registry value

Step 4
Search and delete these folders

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as TROJ_INJECT.FBR. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
