This Trojan uses social engineering methods to lure users into performing certain actions that may, directly or indirectly, cause malicious routines to be performed. Specifically, it uses the name Trend Micro to let users download and install a malicious package that purports to come from a legitimate antivirus company.

Based on analysis of the codes, it has the following capabilities:
- Executes when ofcservice, an OSCE service, is automatically executed at system startup
- Executes the following files added by TROJ_FAKETM.C:
- tmupdg.exe - detected as TROJ_FAKETM.B
- tmconfg.exe - detected as TROJ_DROPPER.JAS

SOLUTION
Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 2
Remove malware files dropped/downloaded by TROJ_FAKETM.A
- TROJ_FAKETM.B
- TROJ_DROPPER.JAS
- TROJ_FAKETM.C
Step 3
Identify and delete files detected as TROJ_FAKETM.A using the Recovery Console
Step 4
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_FAKETM.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required.
