Upon execution, it pauses for five minutes before proceeding with infection.

It then connects to the following URLs where it downloads another file:

It appends the following to the above-mentioned URLs:

  • /bajree.aspx?Random={parameter}
  • /cyacrin.aspx?Random={parameter}
  • /dauber.aspx?Random={parameter}
  • /eaves.aspx?Random={parameter}
  • /kavie.aspx?i5={parameter}
  • /lopper.aspx?i5={parameter}
  • /mabel.aspx?i5={parameter}
  • /noral.aspx?i5={parameter}
  • /opaci.aspx?i5={parameter}
  • /fructi.aspx?e1={parameter}
  • /gynae.aspx?e1={parameter}
  • /hoard.aspx?e1={parameter}
  • /iodal.aspx?e1={parameter}
  • /jiang.aspx?e1={parameter}
  • &g3=yes&h4={parameter}
  • &g3=no&h4={parameter}

where {parameter} is a base64 encoded data that contains the following:

  • browser
  • computer name
  • date and time of installation
  • email clients
  • IP address

The downloaded file is saved as %User Temp%\wmupdate.tmp and executed afterwards. As a result, the malicious routines of the downloaded file are also exhibited on the system. As of this writing, no files are downloaded.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Identify and terminate files detected as TROJ_DLOADER.ALX

  1. If the detected file is displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer but you cannot delete it, restart your computer in safe mode. To do this, refer to this link for the complete steps.
  2. If the detected file is not displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer, continue doing the next steps.

Step 5

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_DLOADER.ALX. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
