OVERVIEW
This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users. It may be downloaded by other malware/grayware/spyware from remote sites. It may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.
It executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.
It deletes itself after execution.

Arrival Details
This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.
It may be downloaded by other malware/grayware/spyware from remote sites.
It may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.
Installation
This Trojan injects threads into the following normal process(es):
- svchost.exe
Download Routine
This Trojan accesses the following websites to download files:
- http://{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.220.52/lol2.exe
- http://{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.220.52/pod.exe
- http://{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.220.52/spm.exe
It saves the files it downloads using the following names:
- %User Temp%\lol2.exe
- %User Temp%\pod.exe
- %User Temp%\spm.exe
(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)
It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.
Other Details
This Trojan deletes itself after execution.
SOLUTION
Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 2
Search and delete these files
- %User Temp%\lol2.exe
- %User Temp%\pod.exe
- %User Temp%\spm.exe
Note: To do a search for the following files, right-click Start then click Search... or Find..., depending on the version of Windows you are running. For each file to be deleted, type its file name in the Named input box. In the Look In drop-down list, select My Computer, then press Enter.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_CHEPVIL.AG. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
