This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
It also has rootkit capabilities, which enables it to hide its processes and files from the user.
It connects to certain websites to send and receive information. It deletes itself after execution.

Arrival Details
This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Trojan drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %Windows%\1945172902.exe
(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows.)
It drops the following non-malicious file:
- %Windows%\1493438348
(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows.)
It adds the following processes:
- explorer.exe
Autostart Technique
This Trojan registers itself as a system service to ensure its automatic execution at every system startup by adding the following registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\8c0f0459
ImagePath = "\systemroot\1493438348:1945172902.exe"
Other System Modifications
This Trojan adds the following registry keys as part of its installation routine:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{b1041c7f-46ea-d87c-4a51-abba7b80f3da}
Rootkit Capabilities
This Trojan also has rootkit capabilities, which enables it to hide its processes and files from the user.
Other Details
This Trojan connects to the following website to send and receive information:
- {BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.46.44
It deletes itself after execution.
NOTES:
It injects codes into its created process EXPLORER.EXE. It prevents any applications such as forensic tools and security software from executing.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Delete this registry key

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as RTKT_ZACESS.SM3.
