Based on analysis of the codes, it has the following capabilities:

  • takes advantage of the vulnerability in the Doc.media.newPlayer method in Multimedia.api which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted PDF file using ZLib compressed streams.

Once a malware successfully exploits the said vulnerability, it causes the following actions to be done on the system:

  • it drops or downloads other malicious files into the affected system.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as JS_PDFKA.AP. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
