This Coinminer arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Coinminer drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\delay.vbs
  • %Windows%\__tmp_rar_sfx_access_check_{numbers}
  • %Windows%\Help\32.zip - ZIP file containing a coinminer and its configuration file
  • %Windows%\Help\config.json - coinminer config file
  • %Windows%\Help\windows.exe - coinminer
  • %Windows%\restart_service.txt
  • %Windows%\svchost.exe - service manager (64-bit only)

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista, 7, and 8.. %Windows% is the Windows folder, where it usually is C:\Windows on all Windows operating system versions.)

It drops and executes the following files:

  • %Windows%\360.bat
  • %Windows%\Imagesr.exe - drops coinminer components
  • %Windows%\new.vbs - executes win.bat and windows.exe
  • %Windows%\win.bat - terminates various processes and deletes services
