This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It connects to a website to send and receive information. However, as of this writing, the said sites are inaccessible.

It modifies Internet Explorer security settings. This puts the affected computer at greater risk, as it allows malicious URLs to be accessed by the computer.

Autostart Technique

This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

Backdoor Routine

This backdoor connects to the following websites to send and receive information:

  • http://{BLOCKED}aamfg.info/gfblegh/update.php?id={unique ID}&stat={value}

However, as of this writing, the said sites are inaccessible.

Web Browser Home Page and Search Page Modification

This backdoor modifies Internet Explorer zone settings.

NOTES:

This backdoor can execute the following commands which is received over HTTPS:

  • Connects to a specified host server
  • Download and execute component files
  • Download configuration and updates
  • Download updated copy of itself
  • Maintains the connection
  • Steals information
  • Terminates the connection

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by BKDR_TEAMBOT.DLL. (Note: Please skip this step if the threat(s) listed below have already been removed.)

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as BKDR_TEAMBOT.DLL.
