OVERVIEW
This backdoor arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users. It arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
It executes commands from a remote malicious user, effectively compromising the affected system.
It deletes the initially executed copy of itself.

Arrival Details
This backdoor arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.
It arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This backdoor drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %User Profile%\{random filename}.exe
(Note: %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name} on Windows Vista and 7.)
Autostart Technique
This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
{random filename} = "%User Profile%\{random filename}.exe"

This backdoor adds the following registry entries:

Propagation
This backdoor uses any of the following Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) servers:
- smtp.{BLOCKED}con.net
- smtp.{BLOCKED}bal.{BLOCKED}o.com
- smtp.{BLOCKED}l.{BLOCKED}o.com
- smtp.{BLOCKED}e.com
- smtp.{BLOCKED}erve.com
- mail.{BLOCKED}l.net
Backdoor Routine
This backdoor may also compose messages that can be part of its spamming routine.
It executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:
- Download and execute files
- Get OS Version
- Get System Information
- Get Network Information
- Retrieve Spam Configuration/Content
Other Details
This backdoor deletes the initially executed copy of itself
NOTES:
It performs random GET Request connection to the certain URLs to mask outbound connections.
It performs random POST Request connection to the certain URLs to mask outbound connections.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as BKDR_PUSHDO.GB
Step 3
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 4
Search and delete files detected as BKDR_PUSHDO.GB
Step 5
Delete this registry value

Step 6
Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as BKDR_PUSHDO.GB. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
