This backdoor may be dropped by the following malware:
Installation
This backdoor injects itself into the following processes running in the affected system's memory:
- Chrome.exe
- Firefox.exe
- Iexplore.exe
- Netscape.exe
- Opera.exe
Backdoor Routine
This backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:
- Download files
- Execute files
- Get drive information
- Manage files and folders
- Perform remote shell
It connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- {BLOCKED}1.{BLOCKED}4.68.239:80
- {BLOCKED}1.{BLOCKED}4.68.239:80/ym/Attachments
It posts the following information to its command and control (C&C) server:
- Computer name
- OS information
- User name
Other Details
This backdoor requires the following additional components to properly run:
- %User Temp%\dsaideo.dll - also detected as BKDR_BRWSEINJ.A
(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)
SOLUTION
Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as BKDR_BRWSEINJ.A
Step 4
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 5
Search and delete the file detected as BKDR_BRWSEINJ.A
*Note: Some component files may be hidden. Please make sure you check the Search Hidden Files and Folders checkbox in the More advanced options option to include all hidden files and folders in the search result.
To manually delete a malware/grayware file from the affected system:
- Right-click Start then click Search....
- In the Named input box, type the name of the file that was detected earlier.
- In the Look In drop-down list, select My Computer then press Enter.
- Once located, select the file then press SHIFT+DELETE to delete it.
Step 6
Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as BKDR_BRWSEINJ.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
