Backdoor Routine

This Backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:

  • Delete arbitrary posts
  • Update arbitrary posts
  • Create a new post
  • Download all the posts
  • Download a specific post
  • Login as Administrator
  • Execute arbitrary code
  • Display all plugins
  • Disable/Remove a specific plugin
  • Print plugin name in the site footer
  • Mask the following site options from being displayed on a page:
    • link_post
    • oWpResp
    • flex
    • submitted_info
    • __phoneDataType
    • percentage_of_total
    • xmlProperty
    • Add_Tab
    • still_online
    • eme_date_obj
    • product_parcent
    • topic_forumid

This Backdoor does the following:

  • The backdoor removes itself
  • The script will run if the following conditions are met:
    • HTTP Referer is more than 10 characters and not an internal referer
    • Stored browser cookies are greater than zero

  • It can add a scheduled task, named "dolly_event", that will occur daily

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Identify and terminate files detected as Backdoor.PHP.DOLLYWAY.A

  1. Windows Task Manager may not display all running processes. In this case, please use a third-party process viewer, preferably Process Explorer, to terminate the malware/grayware/spyware file. You may download the said tool here.
  2. If the detected file is displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer but you cannot delete it, restart your computer in safe mode. To do this, refer to this link for the complete steps.
  3. If the detected file is not displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer, continue doing the next steps.
