A <strong>protocol </strong>refers to a set of rules enabling computers or devices to exchange data with one another with as few errors as possible. Protocols define both how data is processed and how it is transmitted. Popular protocols in use today include TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, and FTP.
