This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\svchost.exe

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista and 7.)

It drops and executes the following files:

  • %User Temp%\SysErrCheck.vbs

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista and 7.)

This Trojan accesses the following websites to download files:

  • http://www.{BLOCKED}rbirdinfo.net/business/brief-introductions.jpg
  • http://www.{BLOCKED}birdinfo.net/business/brief-introductions.txt

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %User Temp%\brief-introductions.jpg
  • %User Temp%\brief-introductions.txt

This malware arrives as a .LNK file as brief-introductions.txt.lnk which targets %System%\mshta.exe http://www.{BLOCKED}rbirdinfo.net/business/brief-introductions.html to access the said site.

Step 4

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as VBS_BSCOPE.EVP.
