This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Trojan drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %System Root%\RECYCLER\mscinet.exe
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It creates the following folders with attributes set to System and Hidden to prevent users from discovering and removing its components:
- %System Root%\RECYCLER

It is injected into the following processes running in memory:
- explorer.exe
Autostart Technique
This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Taskman = "%System Root%\RECYCLER\mscinet.exe"
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Windows Security Firewall Manager = "%System Root%\RECYCLER\mscinet.exe"
It modifies the following registry entries to ensure it automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell = "explorer.exe,%System Root%\RECYCLER\mscinet.exe"
(Note: The default value data of the said registry entry is "explorer.exe".)
Dropping Routine
This Trojan drops the following files:
- %System Root%\RECYCLER\Desktop.ini
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
Other Details
This Trojan attempts to access certain websites. However, the websites are inaccessible as of this writing.
It connects to the following possibly malicious URL:
- bc{random number}.{BLOCKED}e.ru
It sets the attributes of the following file(s) to Hidden and System:
- %System Root%\RECYCLER\mscinet.exe
- %System Root%\RECYCLER\Desktop.ini

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as TROJ_LETHIC.WRJ

Restart in Safe Mode

Delete this registry value
