NOTES:
This malware requires to be installed as a service to work properly. It hooks nsiproxy.sys. It hides the driver object named https.sys.
It does the following:
- Hides the port specified by the backdoor component by hooking ZwDeviceIoControlFile function
- Hides specific file/s from being listed by hooking ZwQueryDirectoryFile function
- Hides specific registries keys from being listed by hooking ZwEnumerateKey function
- Hides specific processes from being listed by hooking ZwQuerySystemInformation function
It does not exploit any vulnerability.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Identify and delete files detected as RTKT_HIKIT.KZ using either the Startup Disk or Recovery Console
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as RTKT_HIKIT.KZ. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
