This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Backdoor Routine
This backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:
- WINCMD - perform remote command shell
- TASKKILL - terminate a certain process
- SHUTDOWN - terminate itself
- SLEEP - sleep for a specified time
- PUTFILE - download arbitrary file
Information Theft
This backdoor gathers the following data:
- computer name
- user name
- operating system version
NOTES:
It gets the IP address of the following site:
- {BLOCKED}ra.googlesale.net
It generates a new IP address by switching the numbers of the acquired IP address:
- Original IP Address = {1st number}.{2nd number}.{3rd number}.{4th number}
- New IP Address = {2nd number}.{3rd number}.{4th number}.{1st number}
It connects to the following URL to send the gathered information and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- {New IP Address}:443
As of this writing, there is no response from the generated new IP address.

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as BKDR_WINCODA.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
