This Trojan displays fake alerts.

This Trojan may be downloaded by other malware/grayware/spyware from remote sites. It may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.

It accesses websites to download files. This action allows this malware to possibly add other malware on the affected computer.

This Trojan may be downloaded by other malware/grayware/spyware from remote sites.

It may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %Program Files%\{random folder}\{random file name}.exe

(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)

Autostart Technique

This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
{malware file name} = {malware path and file name}.exe

Download Routine

This Trojan accesses websites to download the following files:

  • {BLOCKED}rusantispyware2011soft.com
  • {BLOCKED}rawebsoft.info
  • {BLOCKED}t-pro.me

It accesses the following websites to download files:

    Rogue Antivirus Routine

    This Trojan displays the following fake alerts:

    • Your computer is being used as spamming machine. You can get sued for spam.
    • Your computer WILL BE DISCONNECTED FORM INTERNET BECAUSE SPAMMING OTHER PCs.
    • Your computer might be at risk
    • No firewall is turned on
    • Automatic Updates is turned off
    • Antivirus software might not be activated

    • Antivirus detects viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. They can (and do) destroy data, format your hard disk or can destroy the BIOS. By destroying the BIOS many times you end up buying a new motherboard or if the bios chip is removable then that chip would need replacing.

    Step 1

    For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

    Step 4

    Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_FAKEAV.CTV.
