Download Routine

This Trojan connects to the following website(s) to download and execute a malicious file:

  • http://{BLOCKED}u-tokyo.25u.com/_vti_cof/tokyo.jpg

It takes advantage of the following software vulnerabilities to download possibly malicious files:

  • CVE-2012-0507
  • CVE-2012-1723

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %User Temp%\sidebar.exe - detected as BKDR_ETUMBOT.AG

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

NOTES:
It may arrive on a system by clicking malicious links in spammed email messages.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by JAVA_EXPLOIT.OC

    • BKDR_ETUMBOT.AG

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as JAVA_EXPLOIT.OC. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files. Step 4
