This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.

It arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Information Theft

This Trojan steals the following information:

  • Outlook credentials
    • Username
    • Password

Stolen Information

This Trojan sends the gathered information via HTTP POST to the following URL:

  • www.{BLOCKED}goodwill.org/files/report.php?msg={BLOCKED}ITH&uname={username}&password={password}

NOTES:

It executes a malicious Macro script that displays a fake message asking for user's Outlook credentials.

It connects to the following site to report that the macro script has successfully been executed:

  • www.{BLOCKED}ogoodwill.org/files/report.php?msg=MACRO_EXECUTES_WORD_{BLOCKED}ITH_P_ONLY&uname=NULL&password=NULL

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as W97M_FAKELOGIN.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
