This Trojan may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.
Installation
This Trojan drops the following component file(s):
- %System%\w.dll - detected by Trend Micro as TROJ_BAMITAL.CW
(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP and Server 2003.)
It drops the following non-malicious files:
- %System%\dll
- %Windows%\Temp\explorer.dat
- %Windows%\Temp\winlogon.dat
- %System Root%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\dll
(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP and Server 2003.. %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.. %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 2
Close all opened browser windows
Step 3
Remove malware files dropped/downloaded by TROJ_MEREDROP.JF
- TROJ_BAMITAL.CW
Step 4
Restore this deleted registry key/value from backup
*Note: Only Microsoft-related keys/values will be restored. If the malware/grayware also deleted registry keys/values related to programs that are not from Microsoft, please reinstall those programs on your computer.

Remove these strings added by the malware/grayware/spyware in the HOSTS file

Search and delete these files

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_MEREDROP.JF. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
