This Worm arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Worm drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\NTOETECT.exe
- %System Root%\NTOETECT.exe
(Note: %Program Files% is the Program Files folder, where it usually is C:\Program Files on all Windows operating system versions; C:\Program Files (x86) for 32-bit applications running on Windows 64-bit operating systems.. %System Root% is the Windows root folder, where it usually is C:\ on all Windows operating system versions.)
Dropping Routine
This Worm drops the following files:
- %System Root%\AutoRun.inf
- %Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\ReDelBat.bat
- %Windows%\_NTOETECT.exe

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Search and delete these components

- %Windows%\_NTOETECT.exe
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as WORM_HUPIGON.YUB.
