Installation

This backdoor drops the following files:

  • %Program Files%\Common Files\System\admin.obj - also detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\htrn_jis.dll - non-malicious file

(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)

It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %Program Files%\Common Files\System\QQMUDb.exe

(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)

Autostart Technique

This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
QQvb = %Program Files%\Common Files\System\QQMUDb.exe

Other Details

This backdoor connects to the following possibly malicious URL:

  • http://{BLOCKED}ao123.cn/amc.bmp
  • http://{BLOCKED}9.com/sms/sms.jpg
  • http://{BLOCKED}1.com/count/count.asp

It does the following:

  • Drops the following file in several locations in the affected system:
    • lpk.dll - also detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C

However, as of this writing, the said sites are inaccessible.

It deletes itself after execution.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Identify and terminate files detected as BKDR_KYKYSHKA.C
