Microsoft Office 2000 UA OUACTRL.OCX ActiveX Control Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

  Severity: MEDIUM
  CVE Identifier: CVE-2007-2903
  Advisory Date: FEB 25, 2011

  DESCRIPTION

Microsoft Office 2000 UA ActiveX Control is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions. Buffer overflow in the HelpPopup method in the Microsoft Office 2000 Controllo UA di Microsoft Office ActiveX control (OUACTRL.OCX) 1.0.1.9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (probably winhlp32.exe crash) via a long first argument. NOTE: it is not clear whether this issue crosses privilege boundaries.
