It drops an AUTORUN.INF file to automatically execute the copies it drops when a user accesses the drives of an affected system.

Installation

This worm drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %System Root%\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-3357584470-7874273652-641924142-8243\winsystem.exe

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

It drops the following file(s)/component(s):

  • %System Root%\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-3357584470-7874273652-641924142-8243\Desktop.ini
  • %drive letter%\garbage\Desktop.ini

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

It creates the following folders:

This worm adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

Propagation

This worm creates the following folders in all removable drives:

  • garbage

It drops the following copy(ies) of itself in all removable drives:

  • garbage\pizdec.exe

It drops an AUTORUN.INF file to automatically execute the copies it drops when a user accesses the drives of an affected system.

The said .INF file contains the following strings:

Step 1

Delete this registry value

Step 5

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as WORM_PALEVO.ZL.
