This Trojan takes advantage of the following software vulnerabilities to drop malicious files:

  • Certain versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader util.printd and Collab.CollectEmailInfo functions

This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops and executes the following files:

  • %User Temp%\svchost.exe

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

Step 1

For Windows ME and XP users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Search and delete this file

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_PIDIEF.VT If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required.
