This hacking tool arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It may be dropped by the following malware:

  • TSPY_PASSTEAL.TY

It may be manually installed by a user.

NOTES:

This is a command line tool which requires user interaction to perform its intended routine.

This hacking tool is used to recover the following:

  • Email passwords
  • Stored Internet Explorer passwords
  • Web browser passwords

It may save the recovered password to any location specified by the user.

It may accept the following command line parameters:

  • -f {output file name} (to dump email passwords and stored password from web browsers)
  • -h (show help screen)
  • {output filename} (to dump stored passwords from Internet Explorer)

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by HKTL_SXPASSDUMP. (Note: Please skip this step if the threat(s) listed below have already been removed.)
