This Ransomware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Other Details

This Ransomware does the following:

  • Encrypts all files found in %User Profile%\Pictures
  • Displays the following as ransom note:

    • Upon clicking the "Decrypt File" button with the file path to decrypt, it will ask for a code:

      • If the user provides the right code (2101), it will attempt to decrypt the file and will display the following:
        • Successfully decrypted:

        • Failed to decrypt:

      • If the user provides the wrong code it will display the following:

    • Upon clicking the "Get me a decrypt code (check payment)" button, it will display a progress bar that loads to 80% and will display a messege box:

  • The decrypted file is corrupted/damaged due to improper decryption.

Ransomware Routine

This Ransomware appends the following extension to the file name of the encrypted files:

  • encryptedbyBB

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
