Installation

This Trojan adds the following services similar to legitimate applications' to trick a user into thinking they are legitimate:

  • Service Name="AppMgmt"

Autostart Technique

This Trojan registers its dropped component as a system service to ensure its automatic execution at every system startup. It does this by creating the following registry keys:

    • %Program Files%\Common Files\ODBC\BITS.dll - detected as TSPY_KAZAF.A
    • %Program Files%\Common Files\ODBC\appmgmt.def
    • %Program Files%\Common Files\ODBC\bits.def

    For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

    Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as TROJ_DROPPER.MNK

    Step 3

    Remove malware/grayware files that dropped/downloaded TROJ_DROPPER.MNK

    Step 4

    Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by TROJ_DROPPER.MNK

    Step 5

    Delete this registry value
