Installation

This spyware drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %Application Data%\{filename}.exe
        {whereas filename may be one of the following:
    • lsass.exe
    • dwm.exe
    • svhost.exe
    • trw32.exe
    • nxp.exe
    • system.exe
    • lsm32.exe
    • csrss.exe
    • arx32.exe
    • aqs.exe

(Note: %Application Data% is the current user's Application Data folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming on Windows Vista and 7.)

Information Theft

This spyware gathers the following account information from any of the mentioned File Transfer Protocol (FTP) clients or file manager software:

  • Fxp
  • Total Commander
  • Filezilla
  • Wsftp
  • Cute Ftp

It attempts to get stored information such as user names, passwords, and hostnames from the following browsers:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera
  • Google Chrome
  • Safari

This spyware connects to the following website to send and receive information:

  • {BLOCKED}romhellfromme12345.net/gate.php
  • {BLOCKED}romhellfromme12345.net/upload.php

This spyware steals information from the following Mail/Messenger Application:

  • Qip2005
  • Qip2010
  • QipInfium
  • The Bat

It steals user names and passwords for Remote Desktop Connection.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Identify and terminate files detected as TSPY_ANEDL.A
